Grooved Coiling Sleeves

At Coilmech (Pty) Ltd, we possess the technology, know-how and necessary machinery to design and manufacture grooved coiling sleeves to suit the complete range of drum and rope sizes.

The sizes range from 300mm up to 6,5 meters in diameter, combined with widths of up to 4,5 meters.

The directors of Coilmech were actively involved in the development of the modern counter-balanced "S-groove" pattern. The grooving lathe was mechanically adapted to produce this type of crossover section. The new "s-groove" was developed to allow for a more gentle lead-in and lead-out of the crossover, this being a requirement for the lower rope-safety factors.

A half-rolling being fitted to a fully machined mandrel. This grooved sleeve shell fits a winder drum having a diameter of 5,75 meters and a width of 2,2 meters. The grooving pattern shall be of the "S-type".
