History
.........................................................................
The history of this company started with our Roy Harwood who joined Lebus International Engineers in 1976. The company's activity was the supply of imported Lebus coiling sleeves.
After 15 years of growth and development, the South African branch of Lebus International Engineers had become a major supplier to the local mining industry for products ranging from complete mine winders to hydraulic brake upgrades, Lebus grooved sleeves and associated refurbishment work.
Being a wholly owned American company, political issues came to the fore in the late 1980's when the Defence contracts being carried out by Lebus International Inc. in the U.S.A. prohibited their involvement in a South African company, and this led to the complete disinvestment by the U.S.A.
In 1995 three Directors Trevor Watson, Roy Harwood and Martin van Straten started COILMECH (PTY) LTD. The purpose was to create a Mine Winder design and manufacturing company based on the same work ethic and experience built up during the Lebus years.
With a complete heavy fabrication and machining facility already established, the Directors used their experience in the industry to re-establish and re-unite the full complement of Senior Managers from the Lebus organisation.
The local mining industry welcomed the return of the COILMECH skills base to the industry, by supporting COILMECH in our rapid growth and further development into a major force in the local and international mine winder manufacturing industry.
